In Jack's blogathon, you simply recast performances from 2013 that you hated/liked. Here are a few I'd change.
Rebecca Hall for Rachel McAdams in About Time
McAdams just didn't feel right in this film, but Hall would've been a nice addition (and stronger acting choice) to the Richard Curtis' world.
Garrett Hedlund for Charlie Hunnam in Pacific Rim
While Hunnam did the best he could, Hedlund is the more proven actor, which he demonstrated in On the Road.
Michael Shannon for Guy Pearce in Iron Man 3
Pearce was fine. Shannon could've brought more intensity to the villain, though.
Jim Caviezel for Tom Cruise in Oblivion
Cruise was arguably miscast, and Caviezel could've given the character more emotional depth.
Kristin Scott Thomas for Catherine Zeta-Jones in Side Effects
Too on-the-nose, perhaps, but she'd bring a fierceness to the role that was lacking.
I'm sold on these casting decisions. Especially Caviezel instead of Cruise for Oblivion which I thought was one of the film's weak points because it showcases everything we had seen before from him.
ReplyDeleteCaviezel would nail it, for sure.
DeleteThank you for participating! I really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteGarrett Hedlund is a perfect replacement for Pacific Rim. Hunnam was very average, and Hedlund has a more welcoming screen presence than Hunnam.
I thought Zeta-Jones was fine in Side Effects, but Scott Thomas is still a great choice.
Great picks overall! Again, thanks for participating!
Thanks! Glad to participate!
DeleteI really wish they'd gone with Hedlund. After TRON: Legacy, it's a no-brainer.
Yep, Kristin would have been an interesting addition to Side Effects. Sad to read recently that Scott-Thomas is bored with film acting, apparently. Hopefully she'll reconsider:

Yeah, she doesn't need to retire. I hope someone offers her a decent role to lure her back.
DeleteThese are all great choices, especially Hall - she is like prettier, classier, more talented McAdams.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Couldn't agree more on Hall.
DeleteSwapping Kristin Scott Thomas for Catherine Zeta-Jones would have made Side Effects a million times better in my opinion. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It just feels right, doesn't it?
DeleteGreat choices! I'm so behind you with Michael Shannon. 'Intensity' might as well be his middle name.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Haha, it's so true.
DeleteOhhh, I LOVE Rebecca Hall and Jim Caviezel, I absolutely agree w/ the latter in OBLIVION. It'd have definitely given the character more depth and we won't get the fatigue of seeing Tom Cruise playing essentially the same type of characters.
ReplyDeleteAs for Pac Rim, I actually like Hunnam and Hedlund was terrible in TRON Legacy. I also like Guy Pearce in Iron Man 3 and Shannon was already playing a superhero villain in Man of Steel :)
I figured you'd like Hall and Caviezel. ;)
DeleteHedlund was terrific in On the Road, though, and I think his action experience in TRON: Legacy would hypothetically give him an advantage in getting Hunnam's role.
Very interesting choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
