My Criterion Collection

I decided to see just how small my collection was, and found that I have just 33 Criterion titles (not counting those in box sets). However, I also have 31 alternate editions of films that Criterion has released. Take a look at them below, along with my Criterion release wishlist. (Note: Images correspond to the Criterion edition I have. For instance, I only have two titles on Blu-ray, as indicated below.)

Other Criterion titles that I have a different edition of:

Anatomy of a Murder, Armageddon, Badlands, Being John Malkovich, The Bicycle Thief (aka Bicycle Thieves), Blow Out, Breathless, Broadcast News, Charade, The Darjeeling Limited, Days of Heaven, Do the Right Thing, Easy Rider, Following, The Fugitive Kind, The Lady Vanishes, The Last Picture Show, The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), My Man Godfrey, Notorious, On the Waterfront, Paths of Glory, Rosemary's Baby, The Silence of the Lambs, Spartacus, Spellbound, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, The Thin Red Line, The 39 Steps, Three Colors trilogy, 12 Angry Men

Criterion Wishlist: (or 10 random films I wish Criterion would release on DVD/Blu-ray)

City Lights
Dial M for Murder
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
His Girl Friday
Holy Motors
Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring
The Lovers on the Bridge
The Magnificent Ambersons
Persona
The Shop Around the Corner

  1. Of the films you have in the Criterion Collection, I have 6 titles from your list out of the 40 that I currently own which you can see here. Any titles that I had before the Criterion Collection, I essentially gave to the local library though I still have my old Trois Couleurs set because of the extras.

Here is my list of 10 films that I think should be in the Criterion Collection (although I think some will be in the collection soon) not counting the films you mentioned as I am all for those films to be in that collection:

    Breaking the Waves
    Morvern Callar
    Y Tu Mama Tambien
    Fantastic Mr. Fox
    sex, lies, & videotape
    Ghost World
    Black Swan
    Last Tango in Paris
    Safe
    To Die For

    1. Nice collection. I don't often watch DVD extras, but the ones on the Trois Couleurs set are definitely worth saving.

I almost mentioned Black Swan. That'd be great. Breaking the Waves, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and Ghost World would be welcome additions too. Good picks, man.

  2. You have some amazing and much-coveted titles here. You think your collection is small, but it seems grand compared to my measly 10 titles.
Surprised Persona hasn't been released on Criterion. What are they waiting for?

    1. 10 films is a great start. Criterion titles aren't cheap. I suppose my total just looks small when compared to the rest of my DVD collection.

Yes. Persona needs to be out yesterday.

    1. Woah, you've got some great titles in there, some of which I still haven't seen. The Third Man and Ace in the Hole are two I need to pick up.

The Manchurian Candidate and The Misfits. Those would be ideal Criterion titles.

  4. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is so heartbreaking. The thought of being in his situation just terrifies me.

  5. Great collection, my friend. I have a lot of those as well, and I cherish them all. You really can't have too many Criterions, can you?

  6. That sounds like an impressive collection to me. :-) I only own a handful of DVDs (not counting those that belong to "the family") and I think 7 of those are Criterion Collection movies.
