May Oscar Predictions

Is Unbroken really an early favorite for Best Picture?

I've made a few changes since last month's predictions, but it's still too early to know anything for sure. While I've slightly warmed to Unbroken, Big Eyes and The Imitation Game, I've also softened on the prospects of Inherent Vice and, to a lesser extent, Gone Girl. Again, my predictions are based on the assumption that we won't see films like Carol, Suffragette and Macbeth this year. It's possible Far from the Madding Crowd will be released, but I've left it off for now.

  1. Nice changes overall. I will say this...I've read the Into the Woods script, and Depp has one scene and it is not very baity at all.

    1. Thanks. Oh, really? Hmm, I guess he's not happening. The role was Tony-nominated, but I didn't know it was so minor.

I admire your dedication by the way. I never go so far as to read the scripts of upcoming films.

  2. Can't wait to see Unbroken! Wow so this is poised to be Jack O'Connell's big break eh? Interesting to see Swank in the running again, she sort of disappeared for a while.

    1. Yeah, I think O'Connell could have a great year with Unbroken and Starred Up (a British prison film) coming out. I wonder if Swank will make the cut, but I'm sticking with her for now.

  3. Looks good! I don't see Into the Woods getting much love for acting, but I could be wrong.

    1. Thanks! You might be right about Into the Woods, but I think several of the ladies have a shot.
