I didn't mention it much in my review yesterday, but the score for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 by Hans Zimmer and The Magnificent Six with Pharrell Williams and Johnny Marr is the kind of work that deserves more accolades. It's as pounding as Zimmer's work in Inception and as pulsating and melodic as Daft Punk's TRON: Legacy score. (I highlighted a similar type of overlooked score by Ryan Amon in Elysium last year.) While there is no way (at least nowadays) the Academy will recognize a score with so many composers, I wanted to give it a special plug here. Take a listen to one of the awesome tracks below.
It really is a shame that work like this is never recognized! Brilliant work.
ReplyDeleteThanks man! I wish the music branch of the Academy would take more risks. Though, they tend to in Song and not in Score for some reason.
DeleteNice choice, "My Enemy" is great. From score I also like the ultra-short "I Chose You"
ReplyDeleteThanks. I was pleasantly surprised with the score, which is probably my favorite of the year so far.
