    1. It's in my top 100 favorite films now. I LOVED it! Plus, it kept Phoenix from being #1 last month. ;)

    1. Hi Ruth! That's awesome! I was doing research for my music post for a few days, so I missed the chance to watch a some more movies. ;)

  4. I LOVE Vivacious Lady! Jimmy and Ginger had a marvelous chemistry, they apparently dated seriously for a while around this time so it looks like that extended off screen as well. It was actually started and delayed because Stewart became ill and then restarted with different actors as his parents, Charles Coburn instead of Donald Crisp and Beulah Bondi replaced Fay Bainter. Love both the original performers but Coburn and especially Beulah Bondi were great, love when she cuts loose with that dance, so it worked out fine.

I was pretty sure walking into Bridge of Spies that I’d like it and I was pleasantly surprised it exceed even what I had expected. Well made, well-acted and compelling.

I also watched Tea and Sympathy for the first time last month, unfortunately I didn’t like it as much as you. Deborah Kerr was good of course but I thought it was terribly mannered and dated. I’d rate it a C or maybe even C-. While we’re on the subject of Deborah Kerr I also hated The End of the Affair but I think that’s a combination of not liking the story, I also hated the Julianne Moore remake, and my distaste for Van Johnson in most everything. Again Deborah was very good but the film was an incredible struggle to get through.

One other that you like better than me, Z for Zachariah. It reminded me so much of the superior The World, the Flesh and the Devil with Inger Stevens and Harry Belafonte but after a promising beginning just dragged along. It was disappointing because I really like both the lead actors.

    1. Glad you love Vivacious Lady, too! That film is hard to track down, but it's so much fun.

I feel the same about Bridge of Spies. It's surprisingly engaging.

The dated feel of Tea and Sympathy works for me, as it's a melodrama from a bygone era. But I can see it not being for everyone. I love Deborah in both films, though it's interesting you mention the remake of The End of the Affair. I LOVE that version, but was a little underwhelmed by the old one.

Oh, I need to see The World, the Flesh and the Devil. I'm borderline B-/C+ on Z for Zachariah, but I liked most of it.
