How do the 24 official films stack up against each other? |
With the recent release of the 24th official Bond film, I wanted to see where Spectre ranked with the other ones in this historic franchise. I intended to rank these when Skyfall was released three years ago, but I hadn't seen all of the Bond films yet. (It took me this long to finally watch Octopussy.) Check out where Spectre, which has disappointed many, appears in my list below.
Haven't seen Spectre, yet so I can't comment specifically on that one. Skyfall is my personal top choice, but I need to rewatch most of them to do a justifiable ranking. My only raised eyebrows were over Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace. Both feel way, way too high, especially QoS since it sits at #8. I thought they were both horrible.
ReplyDeleteSkyfall is a great #1. Ha, I know I'm in the minority on Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace, but I've always been a fan of them. :/
DeleteI haven't seen all the films, and some that I have it's been years, so I couldn't make a solid list like this.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a devoted fan, I've caught most before Casino Royale by chance rather than design but I can't say I'm surprised to see most of the Roger Moore Bonds taking up the lower portion of the list. He's my least favorite of the Bonds, it's nothing against him specifically as an actor...in general I think he's fine but he never did anything for me in this role and his series of films are the most preposterous.
I like your top five though I'd have Skyfall a bit lower but still in the top 10. I'd also flip Casino Royale and Goldfinger and move On Her Majesty's Secret Service up to #3. I like Lazenby in his one shot but most of all the film has my favorite Bond girl in Diana Rigg, both the actress and the character. It's easy to see why she's the only girl 007 ever married.
I can do a list of who I like in the role best:
1. Sean Connery
2. Daniel Craig
3. George Lazenby
4. Pierce Brosnan
5. Timothy Dalton
6. Roger Moore
So glad to hear you'd have On Her Majesty's Secret Service that high. It's easily the most underrated Bond film. It's interesting that Lazenby would crack your top 3. At the moment, I'd rank them:
Delete1. Sean Connery
2. Daniel Craig
3. Pierce Brosnan
4. Timothy Dalton
5. Roger Moore
6. George Lazenby
This is great, Josh! I should do one of these posts at some point though I barely remember some of Connery films. Oh boy, I'd put Die Another Day as the worst I think, I actually enjoyed Moonraker, it's one of my guilty pleasures and Drax was an elegant and cool villain. But hey, everyone is bound to have a different ranking of Bond movies :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruth! Haha, I love that Moonraker is one of your guilty pleasures, as Die Another Day is one of mine. ;)
DeleteGreat rankings here. Love that From Russia With Love cracks the Top 5. That's such a great film. Also love that both Dalton outings were ranked high here. Those are both so unfairly crapped on.
ReplyDeleteThanks man. From Russia with Love is so good, and the Dalton films are solid entries, no doubt. I love what he did with the character.
DeleteCasino Royale is arguably the most thrilling of the franchise so no complaints about your #1!
ReplyDeleteI love the Roger Moore films, even though I realize they stray from Ian Fleming's vision, but they are childhood favorites and for me they hold up as entertaining, if slightly over-the-top stories. I need to rewatch the Connery Bond films.
Glad you approve of Casino Royale at #1. I go back and forth between it and Goldfinger for the top spot.
DeleteMoore's films are fun, but some of them go a little overboard for me. I love that you're a fan of them, though.
