I still need to see films like White God, Timbuktu, The Dance of Reality, National Gallery, Tangerines, Hide Your Smiling Faces, Grand Central, Top Five, Kill the Messenger, The Better Angels, Jimmy P., A Master Builder, The Toy Soldiers, Camp X-Ray, The Gambler, Tusk, and Men, Women & Children.

Marion Cotillard had a great year, so I'm glad you nominate her twice and give her the win. Ben Mendelsohn was amazing in Starred Up, good call!
ReplyDeleteGlad you agree with those picks. Mendelsohn was fantastic. I might bump Cotillard (for The Immigrant) out when I see Mommy, but she might be too good to remove from my lineup.
DeleteOh, nice picks. I guess I really need to see Laggies now. I was wondering, was Lindsay Duncan (Le Week-End) close to making your Top 5 in Best Actress? I thought she was so great in that.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'd recommend Laggies, as would Sati and Alex Withrow. ;) Duncan was terrific in Le Week-End, as was Broadbent. She wouldn't even make my top 10 for Best Actress now, but in a weaker year, I could've easily nominated her, Broadbent, and the screenplay as well.
DeleteNice! I love seeing Snowpiercer in there a few times.
ReplyDeleteThanks! That movie was so great. Glad I could find room for it.
DeleteLOVE your picks!! YES on Gugu Mbatha Raw over Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy was astounding in Locke! Totally agree with ALL your picks for Best SFX!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth! Haha, Reese wouldn't even make my top 10 for Best Actress, though I did like her performance. Hardy and Mbatha-Raw were amazing, for sure. Glad you like my Visual Effects picks!
DeleteLove seeing Keira nominated for Laggies, but no Pike?
ReplyDeleteBest Actress was ridiculously crowded. I really wanted to include Pike, but she's probably my #7, since I'd also put her behind Mia Wasikowska in Tracks. I rewatched Gone Girl before I posted these, and I couldn't even find room to nominate the film anywhere. :( Pike will make my top 50 performances list (probably coming next week) though, and at least she's already a CinSpec nominee for An Education.
DeleteSkip Tusk!
ReplyDeleteHa, I've heard good and bad things about it. I might have to check it out just to satisfy my curiosity.
DeleteDO NOT skip Tusk!
DeleteAs always, I love these! I really freaking need to see Locke, Starred Up and Laggies ASAP!
DeleteAnd you need to see Mommy!
If you watch it tell me your opinion about it. I think that Tusk is the worst film I ever seen.
Delete@Fisti: Thanks man. I plan on watching Tusk eventually, and I'll see Mommy as soon as I can. You really do need to see those movies!
Delete@Anonymous: I'm not in a hurry to see it, but I might post something on it whenever I see it then.
Good stuff, here. Snowpiercer is an interesting pick for Make-up. A lot more subtle than what we normally think of as award-winning. Not feeling Gone Girl, huh?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendell. Guardians of the Galaxy has the flashier work, but I admire the work in Snowpiercer slightly more. I liked Gone Girl less on a second look, but it was very close to getting noms for Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Original Score. I nominate Rosamund Pike for An Education though, so her GG snub stings a little less for me.
DeleteGreat work. Man, wouldn't it be great if Ben Mendelsohn got nominated for an Oscar one day?
ReplyDeleteThanks! If only. He killed it in Starred Up and Animal Kingdom. What more does he have to do?
DeleteJust stopping back by to note how much I like the way these look right now :-D
ReplyDeleteHaha. Love it! :)
DeleteI love seeing Ben Mendelsohn (my own personal choice for BSA) win here and that Birdman gets plenty of recognition. Tom Hardy and Jack O'Connell making your Best Actor category is also a glorious sight.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see more praise for Mendelsohn's stellar performance, as well the fantastic work from Hardy and O'Connell. I actually added O'Connell to my lineup recently, but I had to take out Michael Keaton, which stings. (Though, I do at least nominate Keaton for Best Supporting Actor for Beetlejuice.)
DeleteWasn't the guy from Mommy in best actor or am I thinking of something else? XD
ReplyDeleteNo, you're right. I recently put Michael Keaton back in my lineup instead. ;)
DeleteFor shame!
Delete;-)
LOL :P
DeleteBtw sorry about the weird email earlier, I wasn't being told you were responding to my comments ^^;
DeleteHaha, I always reply to comments. ;)
