October Oscar Predictions

Is Room Oscar-bound?

A few things have changes since last month's predictions. Room, it seems, is not only a potential Best Actress contender, but also a possible Best Picture nominee. Also, co-leads Alicia Vikander and Rooney Mara are officially being campaigned in the supporting category for their performances in The Danish Girl and Carol, respectively. There was talk of David O. Russell's Joy moving to next year, but it's staying in 2015. While the new trailer for The Revenant is enticing, early word on Bridge of Spies is that it looks on track to become Steven Spielberg's tenth Best Picture-nominated film.     Bridge of Spies looks so generic to me, but it's Speilberg so you're probably right. It will get in there. I just finished reading Room, I'm looking forward to the movie because I think it may actually play out a bit better than the book. I figured Vikander and Mara would end up in Supporting.

    I want Joseph Gordon-Levitt to get in there for The Walk but that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

      I'm intrigued by BOS, but it does look like lesser Spielberg. Can't wait for Room! I really thought Vikander would stay in Lead, but apparently not.

      Ha, JGL isn't happening, but maybe the Golden Globes will nominate him.

    Love the subtle differences here between our predictions...but...did you see the reactions from the Joy screening last night? Looks like Ladd, Lawrence, De Niro and Rossellini are in the hunt for Oscar noms. The reactions were pretty huge...O. Russell's best film since Three Kings is what this is being called, and it looks like Lawrence could actually be winning her second Oscar.

      You would know I just missed the Joy reactions. Well, at least I can change my predictions again next month. :P I'm not ready to give in just yet, though. Supposedly, Lawrence doesn't want to campaign, which was the reason for the potential move to 2016, so I wonder about her chances.

    I'm not sure if Inside Out will make the cut for Best Picture, but the rest of the list looks pretty solid. I'm curious to see how Joy is received--I secretly love JLaw.

      I think Inside Out will get in, but it's possible it could get lost in the shuffle. It looks like Joy will get several nominations, if early word is accurate.

    Our Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress predictions are almost identical. Instead of Mark Rylance, I have Mark Ruffalo and instead of Carey Mulligan, I have Lily Tomlin.

    I do have a feeling Bridge of Spies will play well with voters since it seems like safe Spielberg and I initially didn't include Eddie Redmayne on my Actor predictions because the film has quite a mixed reception and I'm not a very big fan of his. But the nature of the role and thinness of the category might allow him to sneak in.

      I don't see Grandma going anywhere in the awards season, except maybe the Indie Spirits and the Golden Globes. Ruffalo could happen.

      BOS looks like a film the Academy will love. I think Redmayne is a lock for nomination, actually. Let's just hope it's finally Leo's year.

    I'm rooting for Inside Out for a best picture nom! I actually tried reading Room (the novel by Emma Donoghue) about a year ago, I gave up as it didn't grab me. Hope the movie is good!

    Saw Room over the weekend and I would absolutely love if Brie Larson got nominated. She's so good.
