  1. I haven't seen most of these. I did like Closer, though.

    1. Hi Stephanie! I love the performances in Closer, though the film has lost a little of its punch.

  2. I also rewatched Dial M for Murder this year, a well-thought-out plot that held my attention again, despite knowing the ending.

Need to finally watch Destry Rides Again,is it more of a comedy or a western?

    1. I could probably watch Dial M for Murder every week. The dialogue and performances from Milland and Williams make it very entertaining.

Destry Rides Again is more of a western with some comedy, instead of the reverse. Look for it to show up on my updated 1939 ballot, which I'm currently making images for. ;)

  3. A lot of great films there. Glad to see you really liked In Name Only, Cary and Carole were wonderful but wasn't Kay Francis fantastic as the thoroughly rotten Maida! I think Catered Affair showed what a fine dramatic actress Debbie Reynolds could have been if she'd been given the chance even though she did just fine in her own niche.

For all the others that I've seen I'd agree with your grades except for Four Feathers which I thought was alright but didn't love and I'd rate The Rains Came a bit higher probably an A-. It does lose a bit for Tyrone Power as an Indian but I really enjoyed the performances of Myrna Loy, a surprisingly nasty Nigel Bruce and especially George Brent who I thought was way above his usual stolid performance level. I could also see why the special effects won the first Oscar in that category. For the time they are a knockout.

    1. Thanks, I'm almost ready to finish images for 1939. ;) Kay Francis was SO good in In Name Only, as was Debbie Reynolds in The Catered Affair. Though, Ernest Borgnine wiped the floor with both of them in the latter film.

I was surprised to love The Four Feathers so much, and I thought I'd like The Rains Came a little more. Brent was great, as was Loy. The special effects were worthy of an Oscar, no doubt.

    2. I'm surprised you liked The Four Feathers as much as well...since I kind of found it...lacking.

    3. It's not a masterpiece, but I kinda love it. And Ralph Richardson, of course, is aces.
