Final Oscar Predictions

Selma makes the cut, I guess.

The Oscar nominations drop tomorrow, and I still have no idea what to predict. There are so many fringe contenders that I'm sure these will be very wrong. But that's part of the fun. 1. I think our predictions are basically the same. I'm still refusing to believe that Gone Girl gets shut out of BP & BD, since the Director's branch likes to stray from the DGA lineup nowadays, so I have Fincher on instead of Tyldum. Like I said in your previous post, I think Chris Pine is going to land a surprise Supporting Actor nom, as well as Jessica Chastain for AMVY in the Supporting Actress category. I hope Selma and Grand Budapest get lots of noms. Still, I think that we are in for MANY snubs and surprises. The wait for Thursday is going to be long :P

    1. I think Gone Girl is too much for some voters and forgotten by other ones. Keep in mind, most Academy members are white males over 60, and they tend to stay away from genre fare. Chastain could still get in, though I think she probably just misses. I expect most of the surprises will stem from Selma and American Sniper noms/snubs, but we'll see.

  2. I love how we only agree on like three categories! I can't wait till tomorrow. You have more faith than I do in Selma. It's underperformance with the guilds was troubling to me. I am throwing all my predicting eggs in the American Sniper basket right now, assuming that the sudden surge of support for it almost everywhere will pay off big in the end.

    We shall see come tomorrow!

    1. LOL. It's too much! I want to believe in Sniper, but I've backed off in favor of a Selma surge. This should be interesting.

  3. Love seeing Rene Russo in there! I really hope Everything is Awesome and Lost Stars get in. Mostly because I just want to see Tegan and Sarah and The Lonely Island perform. lol

    1. I really think Nightcrawler can get in, but I wouldn't be shocked if it missed entirely. It's still a little iffy to me. Really hope those songs get in as well, especially Lost Stars.

  4. I'm hoping for Rene Russo as well. Please NO Adams!!!!!!

Jennifer Aniston has been working it hard and while I haven't seen her film I hope she gets in. She's a decent actress who has so far squandered her talent in innocuous drivel but I've heard she is excellent in this film. She hasn't a prayer of winning, neither does Adams, but she's a new face in the game and it would be refreshing to see. Unless we're all surprised and the deserving Marion Cotillard is nominated as it should be.

Keaton's going to take Best Actor in a walk but I'd still like to see Jake get a nomination.

    1. I agree Aniston is a decent actress (even nominate her in '02), but her campaign strategy has really put me off. Everyone campaigns (as I would), but some of the things she's done to promote herself are kind of ridiculous. I'd much rather see Adams or Cotillard get in. After the BAFTA nod, I'm thinking the British voting block comes through for Adams, and she takes Aniston's spot.

Speaking of Best Actor, I'm also getting tired of Redmayne's campaign, so I hope Keaton does indeed win, which I think he will.
