The last time I asked which category I should do, music was second to cinematography. So, music is up next.

The cinematography for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is remarkable. That was such a hard movie to watch, but the way it was shot made it so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove that film. Its cinematography is my favorite of all-time.
DeleteWonderful images. Thanks for reminding me how much I liked Master and Commander, Amelie, & Let the Right One In. Antichrist is one of those movies I can bring myself to watch, because I assume it would leave me scarred for life. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Antichrist is...interesting. ;)
DeleteOh, that image is actually from Gerry. Master and Commander won the Oscar that year though.
By the way, I like your new header!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteGREAT WINS! Children of Men's loss is still disgusting, and I even nominate Pan's but MY GOD was Children of Men the only choice that year!
ReplyDeleteFor sure. I was stunned by that upset.
DeleteGreat picks man. 2000 for me would have to be Traffic. The look of that film continues to astound me. LOVE the Gerry pick. Film is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteChildren of Men… if there was ever a flick that deserved the Oscar for Best Cinematography, that’s it.
Love the look of Traffic, but Requiem is just so haunting.
DeleteMore people should see Gerry. Savides doesn't even have an Oscar nom!
Indeed.
I need to see Gerry, Children of Men, and the Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
ReplyDeleteYes. To all of the above. :)
DeleteThe cinematography of Antichrist was the only thing about this movie that I liked, it was truly amazing. I cannot believe Avatar won, the film looked so fake and the cinematography was so boring it was hard to look at the screen sometimes.
ReplyDeleteFor me, Avatar owes its "cinematography" to the visual effects.
DeleteTotally agree that Road to Perdition won Best Cinematography. That film took my breath away, the shooting in the rain scene stands as one of my all time favorite movie rain scenes. It's just so incredibly shot.
ReplyDeleteOh, definitely. It's one of the best.
DeleteI have to see Gerry, Birth, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Antichrist. But I like your other choices.
ReplyDeleteMy personal picks are:
2000 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
2001 Amelie AND LOTR: Fellowship of the ring
2002 Road To Perdition AND Hero
2003 City Of God
2004 The Aviator
2005 Good Night, and Good Luck (but I'm not so sure on this)
2006 Children Of Men
2007 The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford
2008 Benjamin Button
2009 Inglourious Basterds
I hope you like those films when you get to see them.
DeleteGreat picks. I still need to see Hero, and I really must watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon again, since I haven't seen it in over 10 years.
Great picks Josh, I love cinematography, somehow soothing to see the world at its most magnificent. At peace with the world, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHere's a list of films that didn't get mentioned yet, which I think are beautifully shot, from 2000s:
Spring summer fall winter...and spring (2003)
The Return (2003)
The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)
A Love Song For Bobby Long (2004)
The Painted Veil (2006)
Into The Wild (2007)
Bright Star (2009)
All recommended, if you haven't seen them!
Thanks, Chris. Love those picks. I haven't seen The Return or Spring summer fall winter...and spring yet, but they're on my watchlist, so I'll hopefully get to them soon.
