Ryan recently posted his 2014 Blind Spot list, so I finally finished mine. Next year I'm going with one film from each decade (1910's-2010's) and an extra one from the 1980's. It should be an interesting year.

DeleteI've seen 7 of these. In fact, I'm going to re-watch L'Eclisse for December now that I have La Notte. Birth of a Nation is in my Blind-Spot while the films I haven't seen that you listed are My Neighbor Totoro, The Docks of New York, Foreign Correspondent, and The Smiling Lieutenant. DeleteInteresting list. I just caught up with Solaris and Tokyo Story last year, and both should definitely be seen. My Neighbor Totoro is on my list for 2014, which I'll be releasing next week. It will be interesting to see what you think of Uncle Boonmee.

Your list of twelve is great, so I wouldn't worry about it.

ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of them, but my best prediction for favorite film out of these would be The Smiling Lieutenant or The Docks of New York. Can't wait to see what I think of them!

ReplyDeleteAn interesting selection. I've only seen one of them: I'm in the minority but I personally found Solaris to be too slow. It took far too long to get to the actual plot of the movie and scenes kelt dragging on longer than they needed to. I actually preferred the Clooney version:

Thanks. I can understand finding Solaris to be too slow and drawn-out, but most of Tarkovsky's films are like that. His films are often a challenge for me, yet I haven't disliked one of them yet. (I've seen 5 of them - Solaris, The Sacrifice, Ivan's Childhood, Andrei Rublev and Stalker.) I like the Clooney version, but I prefer the original, despite the length.
