I didn't do very well in Shane's Oscar contest, but I'm pretty happy with my overall tally, which was better than last year's attempt. As usual, there were plenty of surprises. American Hustle and Gravity lead the field with 10 nods, with 12 Years a Slave behind with 9. Meanwhile, Captain Phillips and Dallas Buyers Club landed 6 mentions and The Wolf of Wall Street received 5. Despite a few omissions here and there, I'm just thrilled for Leonardo DiCaprio and Wolf, and, of course, for Before Midnight and The Hunt getting nominated.

I'm so happy for Leo too! And I'm pretty proud of myself for predicting Jonah Hill's nomination haha :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I thought James Gandolfini or Daniel Bruhl would get in before he would. :/
DeleteI got 79 correct...so not much better bro! This was crazy. Some of these I don't think ANYONE saw coming.
ReplyDeleteNice. Some of these contenders I totally blanked on, like Lone Survivor in Best Sound Mixing. How'd I mess that up?!
DeleteHey Josh, I only bothered to predict the Best Picture and I got all right except for one (I predicted Blue Jasmine instead of Philomena). Wow, 70+% is amazing, I think mine would've been only 5% if I'm lucky, ahah.
ReplyDeleteGlad The Act of Killing got a nomination, yay!
Thanks, but I'm convinced I could've done better than that. ;)
DeleteI was so glad to see it show up!
In all likelihood it'll be 12 Years A Slave and The Wolf of Wall Street battling it out for Best Picture but it's a shame Tom Hanks didn't get a nomination for Captain Phillips. It was one of his best performances in my opinion, as good as his previous Oscar-winning turns.
ReplyDeleteI actually think Best Picture is between 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and American Hustle. Whichever of those wins the PGA will probably win the Oscar. I would've liked to see Hanks get in over Bale, but DiCaprio's nomination makes up for that.
DeleteI'm still scratching my head over Jackass Bad Grandpa getting a nomination.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I thought it could happen. After all, Norbit and Click got nominations in this category in the past.
