Will The Imitation Game get Oscar voters' attention? |
Since last month's predictions, Macbeth has moved to 2015. Boyhood has received phenomenal reviews, and I can see it garnering a few nominations, even Best Picture and Best Director. Of course, the major players are still Foxcatcher, Unbroken, Interstellar, Birdman and potentially Gone Girl. Meanwhile, films like Fury, Into the Woods, Inherent Vice and The Imitation Game could snag major nods or miss entirely.

Woodley? Why? Isn't the movie a laughing stock?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Fincher will miss out, if the film scores a nod for BP he is in. I also think it has a chance in score nomination.
Williams and Mulligan seem like such darlings, especially Williams to nominate. Into the Woods to me looks ridiculous, especially Streep, but then again she won her 3rd Oscar for ridiculous performance in even more ridiculous movie...
Not really. Compared to something like The Reader, TFIOS received glowing reviews. If the Best Actress category is weak, I could see Woodley getting in.
DeleteI agree Gone Girl has a chance at a score nomination, but there are always surprises in that category. Fincher just misses my predictions right now, as I'm not sure how well the film will play for the Academy.
I think Suite Francaise has been moved to 2015, which rules Williams out. Mulligan's film might be too small, but I hope that's not the case. Haha, I really think Streep will be nominated again.
Sati! The Fault in Our Stars received really good reviews, but more importantly, Woodley received RAVES...serious RAVES! I wasn't predicting her for the longest time based solely on the nature of the film (teen movie)...but this field is basically gutted at this point, and she'll have support at the end of the year.
DeleteI just can't see it,the reviews I read were seriously terrible and I heard people laughing at that movie at multiple occasions. Why would she have support at the end of the year? This is the first I see this included in people's predictions.
DeleteI included her ;-)
DeleteIf you visit AW, you'll see her name being mentioned a lot. She's got a lot of goodwill for her Descendents snub (I didn't think so, but she clearly finished 6th/7th that year) and she's been popping up everywhere. It could be seen as the right time/role for her to get welcomed aboard.
And her reviews, film aside, were outstanding; period.
And I don't like her, like at all (this performance aside, since I haven't seen it), so it's not like I'm some kind of fan.
What if Woodley does happen? Wow...
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I'm adding Boyhood into my next batch of predictions.
Other sites are predicting her, and I'm starting to come around to the idea, especially if Best Actress turns out to be very weak.
DeleteBoyhood looks unstoppable right now. I'm not sure if it could win anything though. Maybe Original Screenplay.
I know both you and Fisti have Into The Woods has a Best Picture contender, but I still just cannot see it.
ReplyDeleteYou might be right, but I think it gets in with 5-10 nominees. The Academy usually ends up with 9, and Into the Woods looks like it could make the cut. Still, it could be relegated to mostly tech nominations, like Nine.
