I don't know if I'll review anything this week or not, so here's a list. Updated Oscar predictions are coming in a day or two, and I might post my top 10 male performances list this week as well. Enjoy!

I definitely do like this list. The Binoche, Jacob, Bergman, Cotillard and Watson additions are all some of my favourites!

DeleteGreat choices. Taylor's definitely on my list. (It's kind of a shame that performance sort of started the annoying trend of glamorous stars getting ugly in hopes of getting an Oscar.)

DeleteNice list! I'm really glad you included Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves. I'm not a huge fan of the movie overall but I absolutely loved her performance.

DeleteYay !! NOTORIOUS. Virginia Woolf was my first Liz Taylor and I swear she scared the hell out of me. That's as powerful a performance can be. Loved Irene Jacob in Red and Veronique. There is something in her face that kinda hypnotizes me. I don't know but I literally CAN NOT take my eyes off her. I have yet to see La vie en Rose but I have heard amazing things. Oh yeah, and Binoche. I know you are little biased but that's definitely worthy one.

Glad you like those picks. Yeah, I'm biased on Binoche, but it's honestly the best female performance I've seen. :)
DeleteOh, I LOVE Ingrid Thulin, especially in Winter Light, Cries and Whispers, and The Silence. She didn't make my list, but I'm a fan.
This is a great list, for it is most interesting in its juxtaposition with the male performers list. A lot more non-English speaking roles on this one isn't there? The significant gap between Burton and Taylor for Virginia Woolf is surprising as SHE won the Oscar and he didn't.

DeleteThe gap is odd, but other performances bumped Taylor down. I even think Burton gives the better performance. He lost to Paul Scofield in the Best Picture winner "A Man for All Seasons" btw.
Great list Josh. The acting in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf was stunning, I can completely understand why it features on both your actor lists.
