Consider: Mark Ruffalo for Best Actor in Infinitely Polar Bear

Buffalo gives one of the year's best performances.

He might be hot off his second Oscar nomination, but Mark Ruffalo deserves awards consideration for his triumphant performance in Infinitely Polar Bear. In the film, he plays a manic-depressive father who’s forced to care for his two daughters in the absence of his wife. The role sounds awards-friendly, but the film is so small that it appears it will go nowhere. Not to mention the subtleties Ruffalo incorporates into his performance, which involves everything from violent outbursts to sweet, warm lightheartedness.

In a career that has featured everything from minor supporting roles to lead ones, Ruffalo has rarely, if ever, been better. His sublime performance feels like the summation of his gifts as an actor, much like Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street a couple of years ago, and it’s a shame that he’ll be ignored. So, consider the man and the performance, which is too good to miss.
