Carlos now lands a couple of major nominations. |
Having watched over 25 new films from this year recently, I've updated my original post with images for every category. I'll be updating another year with images in the coming weeks, but first I'm going to update the old images on some ballots and finish images for the partial ones. Here's a preview of some 2010 images below. (click to enlarge)
Again, you can see my entire ballot here.
I was crossing my fingers for a DiCaprio win, but I'm so glad that Ramirez made it. That such a towering turn, and so multi-layered.
ReplyDeleteI have little to say about the Black Swan gushing and the Social Network snubbery.
Like...dude...WTF?
I wanted to give DiCaprio the win, but Clooney really shines in the second half of The American. Serkis is probably my runner-up, actually. His performance gets better the more I think about it.
DeleteKnow you're not a big fan of Black Swan, and I wish I LOVED The Social Network, which has always been a tale of two halves for me. It starts with a bang before losing its footing after the first hour. I do give it an A- though, and it just missed in Editing. Plus, I do at least give Sorkin a win for Moneyball. :/
I just...I'm speechless! Lose footing? What kind of nonsense are you speaking!?!?!
Delete:-P
LOL, I'd still call it a great film, but I don't think it's a masterpiece or anything.
DeleteOh this reminds me I still need to see Fish Tank! Hmmm, I saw Somewhere but it left me cold. Some ppl call The Americans utterly boring, but I might give it a rent one day if Netflix has it, hopefully I like it as much as you Josh!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you really need to see Fish Tank, Ruth! :) I'm not sure if you'd like The American or not. It's a quiet, slow film with a subtle performance from Clooney. I love it, but not everyone does.
DeleteGreat lineups. I love that you have Fish Tank and Somewhere in your top 5, I LOVE those films so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks! They're great films. Actually, Fish Tank is my runner-up, and Somewhere is my #3. :)
DeleteI'll just say that this was an excellent movie year, because other than Black Swan, I'd have totally different Best Pic noms: The Social Network, Toy Story 3, and two of the following four: The Fighter, Winter's Bone, Blue Valentine, Inception.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, DiCaprio over Clooney.
I agree you made the right choice for Actress, but man that's a tough field. Rapace and Williams were just awesome.
It really is a great year. I think The Social Network and Toy Story 3 are a little overrated, but I do like them. Of your lineup, I'd rank Inception as the best, and it's not even in my top 10 this year.
DeleteDiCaprio is amazing, but I give him a win for The Wolf of Wall Street, so I don't feel too bad about Clooney's win (for his best performance I'd say). Serkis is probably my #2 anyways, with DiCaprio at #3.
I really want to give Rapace the win, but Portman wins rather easily. Though, Jarvis could also be my winner in another year.
Clooney for The American is such a bold choice and I love that you chose it. More people need to see that movie. It's so calculated and great!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you love that choice. I don't think Clooney's ever been better. That film is so underrated, but I've always loved it. Even saw it three times in theaters.
DeleteCarlos has been on my list for a while, been meaning to check that out!
ReplyDeleteSenna is my #2 of 2010. Must have got a US release in 2011. I see you give it the win on your 2011 ballot for best film editing, which it deserved.
If you watch Carlos, I'd recommend the full 5 1/2 hour version. From what I've heard, the theatrical cut is very choppy.
DeleteOh, Senna is amazing! It almost made my top 50 of the decade list.
