Consider: 10 Scores That the Academy Will Overlook

Under the Skin is eligible, but it will be ignored.

There have been dozens of great scores this year, and many of them will be left out at the Oscars. Here are some interesting eligible ones that will be overlooked.

The Boxtrolls (Dario Marianelli)

Calvary (Patrick Cassidy)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Michael Giacchino)

Fury (Steven Price)

Godzilla (Alexandre Desplat)

The Monuments Men (Alexandre Desplat)

Noah (Clint Mansell)

The One I Love (Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans)

Snowpiercer (Marco Beltrami)

Under the Skin (Mica Levi)

  1. I loved the score in Fury. I loved a lot of these, actually. I think Under The Skin has a fair shot at a nomination though. Though I just got flash rage all over again at Birdman being ineligible.

    1. I doubt Under the Skin will get nominated. It'll be one of my favorite nominations if does happen, though. :) Birdman was robbed!

  2. I've only seen three of those films. For me, Under The Skin is the most original of the ten scores you shared. Music for "The One I Love" is pretty out-there too :)

    1. Under the Skin is the best for me, but I love all of them, even the nostalgic nature of Desplat's The Monuments Men score. The One I Love's score is a nice change of pace as well.

  3. I'm not so sure about UtS missing out, it seems to be getting plenty of nominations! Either way none of my favorites - GG or Interstellar - is winning :/

    1. Under the Skin is getting several critics nominations, but it missed at the Golden Globes and even the Critics Choice Awards. I think it's out of the race, sadly. Gone Girl and Interstellar have a better chance at being nominated, at least. :)

  4. I'm praying that Under the Skin winning EVERYTHING it has been nominated for (and a slew of awards that had no other nominees) could make it undeniable for the branch, but I fear that it's not getting the nom over bigger names from bigger films...but MY GOD that would be an awesome nominee!

    1. It will be one of the best nominations if it happens, but it won't. (Please let me be wrong!)

  5. My goodness, Desplat is one prolific and masterful composer isn't he? Seems like nearly every single stuff he made is excellent. I love his work for Imitation Game & Grand Budapest Hotel. I totally agree Michael Giacchino's ominous score for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is fantastic work!

    1. Haha, Desplat was everywhere this year. His work on The Imitation Game is my favorite. Oh, glad you liked Giacchino's Apes score too!

  6. The Under the Skin score was such an essential aspect of that movie. Such a shame it'll be snubbed. Also, great call on the music from The One I Love!

    1. Thanks man! Love those scores, and I'm crossing my fingers for a shocking Under the Skin nomination.

  7. I think this year's score MVP is Desplat. From Grand Budapest to Godzilla, what a great year for him. However, my three favourite scores of the year were that of Under the Skin, Gone Girl and Interstellar.

    1. Yeah, Desplat has 5 scores eligible for the Oscars, and I love all of them. I also love the scores from Under the Skin, Gone Girl and Interstellar. I think the latter two have a good chance at being nominated though, so I left them off this list.
