2016 CinSpec Awards Coming Soon

Hi guys! I didn't mean to drop off the face of the earth, but before I knew it, I just wasn't on here for a few months. How about that Moonlight Best Picture win, huh? Anyways, I have about a dozen films left to catch, then I'll be finalizing the 2016 CinSpecs. Look out for them soon.

  1. Nice to see you back! Was wondering if you were ok, as there was nothing from you on letterboxd, twitter, or anywhere online. It seems you've found other things to do?

    1. Thanks! It just became too much like "work" to keep up with the blog as frequently.

I was so worried about you...Your blog is one of my favorites...and you just seemed to drop off the face of the Earth!

A question I've been meaning to ask you. I'd like to start my own site with reviews and personal film awards...And I've seen hundreds of films but not enough to create my own awards yet.

I'd like to start with a year in film, watch as many films as I can, review them, create my awards, and then move on to another year and keep repeating that cycle. Of course, I'll watch new films and review them throughout the year as well. But which year should I start on?

I was thinking about starting at 1927 and moving up (because that was the first eligibility year for the Academy)...Or maybe doing the whole 25th/50th/75th anniversary thing every month (so this month would be 1942, 1967, or 1992)...I'm torn!!

And when I've picked a year, should I go chronologically (which would be fair, but a lot of the better films are usually at the end of the year) or alphabetically (where it's a complete mixed bag)?

I mean, I don't like watching random films and filling in my award lists as I go because I like the nominees to be fresh in my mind while I'm placing them in my ballots...

Sorry, I know that was more than just a question! Just would really appreciate some advice from a fellow cinephile...

    1. Hello. If you're reading this (months later, apologies), I'd say pick a year and maybe just pick a number of films to watch. Or just make a longlist of films you want to see for each year. As for where to start, you could always jump around with random years, or start in the 1920s and go forward - or vice versa.
