Top 10 Ensembles of 2015

The cast of Spy were hilarious.

Since the Academy Awards are tonight, I wanted to highlight a category that they don't recognize: best ensemble. Here are my favorites from last year.

10. Mad Max: Fury Road

The actors do a masterful, seamless job of selling the madness.

9. Steve Jobs

Aaron Sorkin’s words allow the cast to deliver bold, captivating portrayals.

8. Maps to the Stars

With a first-rate cast comes bizarre and downright lovable performances.

7. Carol

Devastating performances abound. Simply stunning work.

6. Ex Machina

Essentially a three-hander, so the casting/performances are everything.

5. Magic Mike XXL

They go hard. It’s easy to love these guys and gals.

4. Spy

The jokes only work because of the actors, and everyone’s on fire.

3. The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

They’re all having fun, and it’s contagious.

2. The Stanford Prison Experiment

Exceptional performances from its young cast.

1. Spotlight

It’s hard to find a standout performance here. Uniformly subdued, but terrific work all around.

  1. A-MEN to your #1. Such seamless work, it's hard to say who was best (ok, it was Keaton) because they are all so naturally IN THIS.
