Mommy Crashes the CinSpec Awards

Dolan's latest film is his best yet.

I finally saw Mommy, and Xavier Dolan's film has shaken up the 2014 CinSpec Awards a lot. The film now leads the CinSpecs with 8 nominations, and Dolan gets 5 nominations (including one for Tom at the Farm).

My top 10 list has also changed, and I've posted it beneath the new CinSpec images below, as well as on the Yearly Top 10 page. I've included only the categories that have changed from my original post (also linked on the CinSpec Awards page), where you can find the up-to-date images for ALL categories. Note: Aside from adding Mommy, I've also given a new win to The Immigrant. (click the photos to enlarge)

Here's my updated top 10 list:

1. Mommy
2. Birdman
3. Calvary
4. The Immigrant
5. Inherent Vice
6. Two Days, One Night
7. Tom at the Farm
8. Under the Skin
9. Interstellar
10. Starred Up

  2. So, you know EXACTLY how I feel about this, but I'll reiterate.

    My heart has exploded.

The more that Mommy rests with me, the stronger I feel for it, the deeper I love it. It's literally the only movie I've felt this way about, it's more than a movie...it's so much more. It's hard to explain, but I get this overwhelming rush of joy when someone else loves this movie too.

You know I was hoping you'd love this, and I had this sliver of faith that this could be the one, that this could go all the way and actually win you over wholly...but when I clicked on your link I was NOT expecting it to SLAY!!!

I was standing outside, getting ready to take the kids to the park, and I literally jumped up in the air and yelled "OH MY GOD" and my kids thought something was wrong.

    I'm so happy right now.

    AND PILON!!!!!!!!!

    :-D

    1. LOL. Thrilled that you're so happy. Given that our Best Picture winners are usually different, it's about time we had another one we agreed on. :)

  3. Mommy was stunning. I don't know whether I like it or Laurence Anyways more, but still, I'm so glad to see it here! I'm very excited for Dolan's English debut, it sounds promising.

    1. I prefer Mommy to Laurence Anyways, which was my #11 film of 2013. Dolan has really stepped it up with his latest work. Can't wait to see his film with Jessica Chastain!

  4. Glad you loved Mommy! I watched it the other night and totally loved it. There’s so much more to write about MOMMY, but honestly, it’s something best left uncovered by audiences. If cinephiles are looking for something meaty to chew on, let MOMMY take care of you.

    1. So glad you're a fan as well! It's Dolan at his best (so far), and the film only gets better the more I think about it. I really wish it'd won the Palme d'Or (though I still need to see Winter Sleep).
