# - 8 1/2
Striking visuals, and Marcello Mastroianni gives a brilliant performance.
A - The Apartment
Funny, endearing, and perfect. My favorite film of all-time.
B - Blade Runner (Director's Cut)
Proves that combining science fiction and film noir can work.
C - Casablanca
Bogie and Bergman are the classic screen couple, backed with a script full of quotable lines.
D - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Beautiful and tender, with an incredible performance by Mathieu Amalric.
E - Eyes Wide Shut
Cruise and Kidman are fantastic in Kubrick's finest hour.
F - The French Connection
Detectives Doyle and Russo are one of my favorite on-screen duos.
G - Gary Oldman
He's given so many wonderful performances, from Sid Vicious to George Smiley.
H - Humphrey Bogart
My favorite classic actor, and one of the coolest guys to ever grace the screen.
I - Ingmar and Ingrid Bergman
My favorite director, and my favorite classic actress. They even did a film (Autumn Sonata) together.
J - Juliette Binoche
As far as I'm concerned, no actress does it better.
K - Krzysztof Kieslowski
Still largely unknown, he's responsible for some of the best films I've ever seen.
L - Leach, Archibald (Cary Grant)
His screwball comedies are staples for me. And his other work isn't bad either.
M - The Master of Suspense (Alfred Hitchcock)
He made at least one classic suspense film for virtually anyone to enjoy.
N - Notorious
Two of my favorite actors are at the top of their game in one of Hitch's best films.
O - One from the Heart soundtrack
Tom Waits is my favorite music artist, and Coppola's film owes a great deal to his jazzy song score.
P - Persona
Bergman directs Bibi Andersson and Liv Ullmann in two phenomenal performances.
Q - Quentin Tarantino
One of the best dialogue writers around, with a catalog of awesome films.
R - Russell Crowe
He's been down as of late, but he's given some of my favorite performances throughout his career.
S - The Seventh Seal
Bergman's haunting masterpiece. A film everyone should see.
T - Three Colors: Blue, White and Red
The best trilogy I've seen, with brutal performances and breathtaking cinematography.
U - The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Catherine Deneuve sings, and the colors pop off the screen.
V - Vertigo
Bernard Herrmann's score is iconic, and Stewart and Novak deliver top-notch performances.
W - Woody Allen
Maker of hilarious comedies and dark dramas. It's hard not to love him.
X - Xavier Dolan
Heartbeats is the only film of his I've seen, but I loved it.
Y - Y Tu Mama También
Cuaron's coming-of-age love triangle succeeds with some great work from the young actors.
Z - Z
A classic, if somewhat forgotten, political thriller that is genuinely thrilling.
