Linklater and Anderson are part of a small club. |
When Wes Anderson and Richard Linklater both lost in three categories at the Oscars last month, they joined several filmmakers, such as Peter Jackson, Paul Thomas Anderson, and the Coen brothers, who have also lost three awards on the same night. However, it's only the third time that two filmmakers have lost thrice in one night. Here's the list they've joined.
1964:
Stanley Kubrick (Dr. Strangelove)
Michael Cacoyannis (Zorba the Greek)
2009:
James Cameron (Avatar)
Jason Reitman (Up in the Air)
2014:
Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel)
Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
I love when you post these oddities! Kubrick's lack of Oscar love (at least when wins are concerned) is just a shame. I can't say that I'm upset over the rest of those losses though :-P
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoy them! It's hard to find random stats, but I love stumbling across them. Yeah, Kubrick lost thrice in one night, like, three times. Pretty sad.
DeleteInteresting trivia Josh! Keep up w/ this Oscar Oddities post, I always enjoy reading them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth! I'll try to find more interesting trivia to post! ;)
