| Are we underestimating Fury Road's chances for major nominations? |
Now that the SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics' Choice Awards nominations have been announced, several categories (Best Supporting Actor, for instance) are tough to predict. My final predictions could change a lot by next month. But Spotlight still looks like the frontrunner, with something like The Martian as a potential spoiler. Paul Dano and Michael Shannon need to be in the Supporting Actor line up. (IMO) I feel like Shannon's a lock at this point, he's hit all the big noms, and Dano's only missed a few.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Inside Out will get a Best Picture nomination. It's a shame Jennifer Lawrence may get another one for Joy when Mulligan was SO GOOD in Suffragette. I'm still pulling for Jacob Tremblay to get in there too.
I think Shannon is a classic example of an actor hitting everywhere except at BAFTA and the Oscars. Even if he gets in at BAFTA it's not a sure thing. Dano, unfortunately, doesn't have much of a chance, unless he's a surprise nominee on Oscar morning.
DeleteInside Out could miss, but I think it'd be a lock for a nom if there were still 10 films. I prefer Mulligan in Far from the Madding Crowd, but I'd love for her to get a nomination for either film. And YES to Tremblay! He deserves it.
I just want Hardy to be nominated. If Christian freaking Bale gets in over him...no. Please no.

DeleteAll I want for the season is a nomination for Charlotte Rampling. I haven't seen her film yet but it doesn't matter I'm sure she's great and I can't think of anyone who is more overdue than she. I'd be delighted if she won though I'm guessing that's a long shot but at least the acknowledgement of her awesomeness will be hers nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI feel for Carey Mulligan, it looked like she was going to be the winner for a while and now it's questionable if she'll even be in the running.
I hate how rampant category fraud has become. Such a cheat to the deserving character actors who are being screwed out of their just reward by greedy stars and studios.
Yeah, category fraud is not fair, but I'd love for someone like Jacob Tremblay to benefit from it. He's the real star of Room.

I'm REALLY REALLY hoping Mad Max: Fury Road gets in on Best Picture noms, and hopefully Theron won't be overlooked in Best Actress race. I'm really tired of seeing Jennifer Lawrence's name on there.
