Ranking the Pixar Films

Toy Story remains one of Pixar's finest.

With the recent release of Pixar's 15th animated feature, I've attempted to rank them based on personal preference. The order changes, but here's where I'm at right now.

15. Cars 2 (2011)

The sequel we didn't ask for.

14. Monsters University (2013)

Not a bad sequel, but it's a step down from the original.

13. Cars (2006)

Pixar lite. Overall, it's pretty standard and somewhat forgettable.

12. Brave (2012)

A little uneven, but its heart is in the right place.

11. A Bug's Life (1998)

Thoroughly enjoyable and arguably underrated.

10. Toy Story 3 (2010)

Feels like a slight retread of a better Toy Story sequel.

9. Up (2009)

A mixed bag. At times beautiful, and others unremarkable.

8. Monsters, Inc. (2001)

One of the most heartfelt of Pixar's catalog.

7. The Incredibles (2004)

Pure family entertainment.

6. Wall-E (2008)

A masterpiece interrupted.

5. Toy Story 2 (1999)

Sequels don't get much better.

4. Inside Out (2015)

Possibly the most important Pixar film and the most emotional one.

3. Toy Story (1995)

It's hard to top the introduction to these characters.

2. Ratatouille (2007)

Delightful. So much love poured into this one.

1. Finding Nemo (2003)

The crowning achievement. The heart and humor are in perfect sync.

  1. I love the Toy Story trilogy, a modern classic. Great to see Inside Out so high, it does seem to be grabbing people emotionally. I'll have to wait until August to finally see it.
I'll try and watch your #1 Finding Nemo this year :)

    1. I love the first two Toy Story films, but the third one is a little step down for me. Hope you get to see Finding Nemo this year. Inside Out is great, too. Hope you like it!

I hold Toy Story 3 in much higher regard than you, but I totally understand and adore your ranking.

    1. Nemo is brilliant!!

Yeah, I like Toy Story 3, but I don't love it. I get why most people adore it though.

  3. Great post! I 100% agree with your bottom three. My top three would be WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug's Life (which you are so right in it being underrated.)

  4. Great idea for a list Josh! I skipped the two Cars movies, and I think Brave would make it to my top 10. I'm one of the minorities who're not blown away by UP, but I do love Finding Nemo! I think Toy Story, Nemo and Wall•E might make up my Pixar top 3.
