I didn't get a chance to prepare for my 1960 CinSpec Awards post, so that will be next week. Instead, I've updated my current ballot for this year. It's changed significantly since my Halfway Awards post, and I'm sure it will look quite different when I post the "final" version early next year. Note: You can click on the images to enlarge them. (By the way, I finally saw The Great Beauty, and I added it to the Best Production Design category on my 2013 ballot.)
Of the films already released, I still need to see ones like Venus in Fur, Night Moves, Metro Manila, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Tracks, Young and Beautiful, Land Ho!, The Trip to Italy, The Zero Theorem, Blue Ruin, The Raid 2, I Origins, Mood Indigo, The Boxtrolls, Hector and the Search for Happiness, Pride, God Help the Girl, and Obvious Child.
Love the love for We Are the Best!!!!! Also Locke, Calvary, Grad Budapest and Starred Up.

DeleteI would love so much if Law and McAvoy got nominated for those roles. Sadly, they won't, but boy do they deserve it. Hell Law should have an Oscar just for the first 3 minutes of Dom Hemingway lol

DeleteGreat work here man - love your picks. I think my biggest disappointment of 2014 so far was the way The Immigrant was received. It's complete and utter lack of acknowledgement is so heartbreaking. It was in theaters for what, two weeks? Such a bummer. I really enjoyed that film.
ReplyDeleteThanks man. Yeah, James Gray has been largely overlooked in the US for years. I love all of his films, though I haven't seen The Yards yet. The Immigrant deserved a better release, no doubt.
DeleteWhat's interesting to me is how Patricia Arquette has become the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress this awards season, and she didn't even receive a bronze award from you, (which probably means she'll probably miss your cut come the end of the year)
ReplyDeleteI can see my Supporting Actress lineup staying almost the same, with Arquette hanging in there. Unless something surprises me (quite possible - my winner last year was Selena Gomez, after all), the only change I might make is replacing Stone in Magic for her performance in Birdman.

By the way, The Wind Rises, is that not eligible, or have you just not seen/liked it?

I haven't seen The Wind Rises, but I consider it a 2013 release, since it was nominated for an Oscar then. I want to watch it and Ernest and Celestine soon, as I'll probably add them to my Animated Film lineup from last year.
Awesome choices! My favourite movie of the year, without a doubt, is Boyhood, followed VERY closely by Under the Skin. Also, I love the fact you have The Immigrant and The Grand Budapest Hotel in lots of categories!
