The Drama Llama's Alphabet Meme

This is ridiculously late, but here's my entry into Katy's Alphabet Meme.

Anticipating Movie of 2014
Interstellar

Nolan + that amazing cast = must see.

Book Adaptation I'd Love To See
City of Glass by Paul Auster

The postmodern spin on a noir would be very interesting, but possibly too difficult to bring to the big screen.

Celebrity I'd Most Like To Meet
Philip Seymour Hoffman

I know it will never happen, but he's been on my mind for the past day and a half. RIP, sir.

Dream Director/Actor Pairing
the Dardennes and Juliette Binoche

Marion Cotillard is even doing a film with them. Why hasn't this happened yet?

Essential Classic Film
The Apartment

I know it's an obvious choice coming from me, but Casablanca would be even more so.

Favorite Film Franchise
Harry Potter

I grew up with them, and every movie delivers, unlike the Bond series.

Genre I Watch The Most
Drama

It's a broad category, but I try to watch a little bit of everything. (Shot from A Short Film About Love.)

Hidden Gem
Dial M for Murder

If it's on TV, I'm watching at least some of it.

Important Moment in My Film Life

Discovering Bergman and Kieslowski with The Seventh Seal (above) and the Three Colors trilogy, respectively. Film changed for me with those movies.

Just Right Movie for A Rainy Day
A Good Year

A modern rom-com that's just too sweet and charming to ignore. I love it.

Kiddie Movie I Still Shamelessly Enjoy
The Goonies

A must-watch for anyone who loves movies. It's so much fun!

Location I'd Most Like To Visit
Paris, France

Midnight in Paris (above). Before Sunset. Three Colors: Blue. The Lovers on the Bridge. 'Nuff said.

Marathon I First Attended
Frankenstein double feature.

Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein were fantastic on the big screen, though some people came in after the first film and only watched the sequel.

Netflix Movie I Actually Watched
The Hour of the Wolf

Digging into Bergman was one way to get me on Netflix.

One Movie I Saw In Theaters More Than 5x
Zoom

Yes, I watched it six times in theaters (in high school). Moving on...

Preferred Place To Watch A New Movie (Cinema or at home)
Cinema

The energy of a theater is far more enjoyable than a small screen at home.

Quote that Inspires Me
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?" from It's a Wonderful Life

The idea behind this quote, that every life matters and has its own essential course, is very inspirational to me.

Remakes (Friend or Foe?)
Usually Foe

Except for films like The Maltese Falcon (above), The Thing and The Departed.

Snack I Enjoy Most
Bottled water

I don't really eat when I watch films.

Twist That Boggled My Mind
Following

The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects notwithstanding, the end of Nolan's film baffled me. Simple enough, but I didn't see it coming.

Very Excited for Award Show Season?
Overjoyed!

It's my favorite time of the year, as I love following the Oscar race.

Wish I Never Watched…
Popeye

I'm sorry, but it was sooo bad.

XXX Movie I Watched At A Really Young Age (R or NC-17)
Basic Instinct

Seeing this at the age of 11 was definitely an eye-opening experience.

Your latest movie-related obsession
Original movie songs

I listen to song contenders every week for my ballots, and I really like discovering new ones that originated in films.

ZZZ-Catchers (name a movie that has put you to sleep)
Charlotte's Web

This was so dull that I fell asleep in the theater, which I never do. I did finish it then, but I've never bothered to go back to see what I missed.

  2. Glad you're finally doing this Josh! Ohh... your pick for Celebrity I'd Most Like To Meet makes me so sad :( I miss Mr. Hoffman already.

As for your 'essential classic,' I'm so glad that's on my BlindSpot list! A Good Year is a good one too, glad you like it.

I can't wait to stare at the Eiffel tower like Owen Wilson does above... planning to visit Paris for our anniversary this year :)

  4. The sad part is NO ONE made me watch it that many times. I actually loved it then. Oh well. I hate it now, anyways.

  5. Very nice post Josh! Thank you for participating in my movie meme!
I'm really looking forward to Interstellar too, even if it's about corn. :)
A Good Year is quite the underrated dramedy, and it's great to enjoy Marion before her La Vie En Rose acclaim.
I've always enjoyed eating snacks during movies but I'm finding that I actually don't like to do that every much - it feels too forced especially in movie theatres.

    1. Thanks Katy! Happy to participate! :)

Haha, I haven't eaten in a theater in probably 6 or 7 years.

    1. Yeah, though they've only made 8 feature films (excluding their latest with Cotillard and a few early docs). I'd love to track down their earliest ones - Falsch and Je pense à vous.

      Thanks!
