86th Oscar Nominations Announced

I didn't do very well in Shane's Oscar contest, but I'm pretty happy with my overall tally, which was better than last year's attempt. As usual, there were plenty of surprises. American Hustle and Gravity lead the field with 10 nods, with 12 Years a Slave behind with 9. Meanwhile, Captain Phillips and Dallas Buyers Club landed 6 mentions and The Wolf of Wall Street received 5. 1. Great job! I thought James Gandolfini or Daniel Bruhl would get in before he would. :/

    1. Nice. Some of these contenders I totally blanked on, like Lone Survivor in Best Sound Mixing. How'd I mess that up?!

  3. Hey Josh, I only bothered to predict the Best Picture and I got all right except for one (I predicted Blue Jasmine instead of Philomena). Wow, 70+% is amazing, I think mine would've been only 5% if I'm lucky, ahah.

Glad The Act of Killing got a nomination, yay!

    1. Thanks, but I'm convinced I could've done better than that. ;)

I was so glad to see it show up!

  4. In all likelihood it'll be 12 Years A Slave and The Wolf of Wall Street battling it out for Best Picture but it's a shame Tom Hanks didn't get a nomination for Captain Phillips. It was one of his best performances in my opinion, as good as his previous Oscar-winning turns.

    1. I actually think Best Picture is between 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and American Hustle. Whichever of those wins the PGA will probably win the Oscar. I would've liked to see Hanks get in over Bale, but DiCaprio's nomination makes up for that.

  5. I'm still scratching my head over Jackass Bad Grandpa getting a nomination.
