  1. I love looking at your viewing list because I can totally see the awards your are sculpting (all the 88, 98, 08 films)...LOL...I'm the same way though. I've seen like 50 films this month, all of which are either 93, 88, 12 or 67 :-D

    1. Haha, it's so true. Normally my viewings would be a little more varied (is that possible?), but now I'm focused on films for my ballots. I try to get them as close to final before posting them. :)

That's great! Keep up the good work!

  2. You got through a lot of classics again last month! I recently saw Chaplin's Limelight, which was pretty good. Yet to see Monsieur Verdoux-looks like you really liked it.
Make Way for Tomorrow, I heard it was the inspiration for Tokyo Story-which I actually prefer of the two.
Glad to see the high score for The Edge of Heaven, Fatih Akin sure is an underrated director. Have you seen Head-on (2004)? That's very powerful too.

    1. Yeah, my ballots necessitated it. :) Loved Monsieur Verdoux, and Limelight is on my watchlist.

I still haven't seen Tokyo Story. If I don't see it soon, it will probably go on my Blind Spot list next year. I haven't seen Head-on either, but I'll add it to my watchlist.

  3. Holy potatoes ... you are a seriously prolific film buff! :) I'm curious what you thought of Hilary and Jackie, which I loved, and Boy A (I found the movie ... and especially the novel ... quite compelling.)

    1. I couldn't believe I watched that many! :) I felt the same about both: While the acting was terrific, I was underwhelmed by the films. Still, I'd easily recommend them to others for the performances.

    2. I liked these two films better than you did, but see where you're coming from. From what I remember, the performances were the best part of both movies.

As a plus, Boy A led me to read the novel upon which it was based, which I found exceptionally engrossing, discovering a new author in the process.

    3. Yeah, I liked the films, but I didn't love them.

Good stuff. I need to read the novel some time.

  4. Unbelievable how many films you watched each month Josh! No wonder you could do those Oscar predictions stuff so well! I'd love it if you review your top 3, esp curious about Monsieur Verdoux :D

    1. Haha. Well, I didn't watch many new films, actually. I'm glad I was able to see Fruitvale Station, as that will probably get multiple Oscar nominations.

I might do a mini-reviews post of those 3 films later this week then. :)
