It's great to see Cagney in Best Actor as well. He was close to making my top 5.

I notice you haven't nominated any of the performers twice, which I've considered doing. Still, Stanwyck would be my winner for any of her 3 films, and I don't like putting multiple performances in one slot, like some critics groups do. Her 3 nominations in one acting category are a first for my awards, though.Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08596682195753811295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030627662498151745.post-29743092083610574172014-08-02T15:27:07.548-04:002014-08-02T15:27:07.548-04:00Interesting choices for an extraordinarily good ye...Interesting choices for an extraordinarily good year in Hollywood. I love this sort of post. My choices are very close to yours in some categories and miles apart in others but our winners almost match despite that. It's so subjective but that's part of what makes it fun. I only did the major categories though, I'm in awe that you did them all.

My choices for the top 6 categories:
Picture:
Citizen Kane
High Sierra
The Lady Eve
The Little Foxes
The Maltese Falcon-Winner
Kane is a virtuoso piece of work but like you I prefer Falcon.

Director:
John Huston-The Maltese Falcon-Winner
Preston Sturges-The Lady Eve
Raoul Walsh-High Sierra
Orson Welles-Citizen Kane
William Wyler-The Little Foxes
This is the one we were closest on, only Wyler & Capra changed, but I would have given the award to Huston rather than Welles.

Actor:
Humphrey Bogart-The Maltese Falcon-Winner
James Cagney-The Strawberry Blonde
Albert Dekker-Among the Living
Edward G. Robinson-The Sea Wolf
Orson Welles-Citizen Kane
I was tempted to go with Edward G. but with High Sierra in the same year it had to be Bogart.

Actress:
Joan Crawford-A Woman's Face
Bette Davis-The Little Foxes
Ida Lupino-Ladies in Retirement-Winner
Barbara Stanwyck-Ball of Fire-Winner
Margaret Sullavan-Back Street
It's a tie! I love both performances so much I couldn't pick and both ladies did other brilliant work that year with John Doe & Lady Eve for Missy Stanwyck and Sea Wolf & High Sierra for Ida.

Supporting Actor:
Charles Coburn-The Lady Eve
Donald Crisp-How Green Was My Valley
Sydney Greenstreet-The Maltese Falcon-Winner
Charles Laughton-It Started With Eve
Claude Rains-Here Comes Mr. Jordan
The one category where I had no doubt in my choice. All the performances are wonderful but Greenstreet's towers over them all.

Supporting Actress:
Mary Astor-The Maltese Falcon-Winner
Joan Bennett-Man Hunt
Ingrid Bergman-Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
Dorothy Comingore-Citizen Kane
Rita Hayworth-The Strawberry Blonde
I know Mary Astor won for The Great Lie and that's a sensational performance but I think her iconic one in Falcon is just a bit better, she seems like a lead but her screen time puts her just this side of supporting. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030627662498151745.post-39471197589267919032014-07-22T23:14:30.553-04:002014-07-22T23:14:30.553-04:00Yeah, I love that we have the same top 3! They don't make films like The Maltese Falcon anymore.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030627662498151745.post-46212550007894089912014-07-21T23:15:07.589-04:002014-07-21T23:15:07.589-04:00No problem Ruth! He's quite prolific in his days wasn't he, and shame on me that I haven't seen a single one. Kane is the more important film, but in terms of personal choice, I'd easily go with The Maltese Falcon. :)Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08596682195753811295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030627662498151745.post-27720334780565291942014-07-18T01:42:16.095-04:002014-07-18T01:42:16.095-04:00OMG, NO!
